Ten years after her husband’s death from cancer, Mum passed away while washing his things

Ten years after her husband passed away from the horrible sickness, a MUM passed away from cancer while cleaning her husband’s work clothing.

Mother of three Joan Davies washed her husband David’s overalls every day while he worked at power plants from the 1950s through the 1980s.

The issue was that both of them inhaled asbestos from David’s garments, which caused their deaths.

Because it could endure high temperatures, asbestos was a popular mineral, but inhaling it can cause cancer.

According to the couple’s kids, David would drill into the hazardous material and return from work covered in dust.

Joan unintentionally put herself in risk when she washed the overalls in the garage after shaking them out.

Mesothelioma, a lung cancer that is now believed to be caused by asbestos, claimed David’s life at the age of 89.

Ten years later, Joan also passed away following the same incident.

Now sixty-three-year-old son Jeff Davies went to court and was awarded money for his troubles.

Jeff stated, “Our family now knows the truth about our mom’s asbestos exposure, but it took a long time and a lot of work.”

Notwithstanding the fact that it cannot bring her back, discovering the truth about what transpired would have meant a great deal to them both.

“I think it goes without saying, but my parents were genuinely amazing people.” Their lives were put to good use by both of them.

“They didn’t deserve this terrible cancer; they worked so hard to make a great life for themselves and the family.”

David was employed by a power plant in Pembroke and Cardiff.

According to Jeff, they became deeply engaged in their Pembrokeshire community.

Jeff claimed to have received a settlement from Irwin Mitchell, but the precise sum remained undisclosed.

It was decided that David’s negligence caused his asbestos exposure at Pembroke Power Station, which unintentionally exposed Joan.

They have two other kids, Greg and Chris, in addition to Jeff.

Joan didn’t become ill until May 2022, but she developed cancer fast and passed away in July of the same year.

It was for the same reason that David passed away in May 2012.

“Losing one parent to asbestos cancer is terrible, but seeing David and then Joan get mesothelioma and die from it is unimaginable,” stated Jeff’s attorney, Alexandra Lausen.

“It makes sense that the family was devastated and looking for answers.”

She added that it might inspire other women who have similar asbestos exposure to come forward.

“Jeff has shown enormous courage in sharing his family’s story and hopes that by doing so he can encourage women in his mum’s situation to seek the support and help they deserve,” the woman said.

Although there had been several warnings about asbestos, it wasn’t until 1999 that it was outlawed entirely in the UK.
