The 48-year-old widow described Sophie as a “kind-hearted, funny, brave girl” in a heartfelt Instagram post shared by her family.

“Our hearts are broken, Sophie. I knew no more gorgeous, kind, humorous, brave, or amusing girl than you,” she wrote.

“Sophie, we will miss your infectious laugh and lovely smile. Now go relax and tend to your beautiful family.

“Love you always, lovely girl.”

“Absolutely heartbreaking,” was how Sue’s daughter Chloe described the message. What a lovely and courageous girl.

“Words are not present.” I’m thinking about you all and sending you tons of strength and love.

On October 25, 2017, the courageous adolescent was informed she had cancer, and shortly after, she started a four-week course of chemotherapy.

She experienced two periods of remission and four bouts of illness over the years.

Megan, her 17-year-old twin sister, was present when she passed away.

“Our beautiful, smart, funny, and brave girl Sophie fell fast asleep last night just after 6:30pm with Megan lying by her side,” Sophie’s family wrote in a letter after she passed away.

“It would be an understatement to say we are devastated. Our world will never be the same again because we love her so much.

“Please remember our broken family in your prayers and thoughts; I never imagined having to write this post.”

Social media users flocked to Sophie’s family’s comments to provide support.

One person said, “My heart is broken into a million pieces for you all.”

“This is really bad. Sophie and your family weren’t worthy of it. This world is so cruel sometimes.

“Sophie was such a beautiful little girl, and her life will live on in your memories and the stories you tell about all the amazing qualities that made her the wonderful, courageous girl she was, and all the love you had for her.”

“Guys, I really apologize,” a second added. You all fought hard, and so did she. She is not in agony anymore.

It is incomprehensible. That lovely, attractive people are taken this early is cruel. Now, your guardian angel is the most gorgeous person you have ever seen. “Sky high, my love.”
